Summer Oversized Hair Accessories

XXL accessories are the best option for you if you want to make a fashion statement this summer. The hair accessories palette is wide and colorful, from the “tidy” bows from the ‘40s and the ‘50s to those from the ‘80s, from the decorative headbands of the ‘20s to the sport-chic ones of the ‘80s and the ‘90s.

Hair accessories for spring/summer 2010 come in different colors and the models vary a lot from oversized bows to the more discreet ones, from a simple flower to beautiful bouquets. You have many options, from narrow headbands or more voluminous ones to amazing structures made from tulle, lace or silk.
Marc Jacobs, Luella, Temperley and Diane von Furstenberg's Resort 2010 were the collections filled with big, playful bows. You can find it difficult to wear this tricky trend as the result might be disastrous and ridiculous.

Oversized bows. Choose a playful and sweet bow but make sure to keep the rest of the outfit neutral. Luella accessorized their vintage buns with oversized leather bows in flashy colors of red or yellow, that came in contrast with the powerful colors of the clothes. An extravagant interpretation of the bows, that reminded us of the '80s look is the one proposed by Marc by Marc Jacobs. Made of taffeta and very strong colors (turquoise, red, blue-cobalt) these bows are great if you want to recreate a retro-chic look.
You can use a bow in order to get a boyish outfit by pairing skinny jeans with a t-shirt, or you cab go for a more girly, innocent look by choosing a sweet dress.

Oversized flowers. The oversized flower motif has been used by most designers. Diane von Furstenberg stakes on flowers and hippie wavy hairstyles. Chanel found its inspiration in the delicacy of field flowers and leaves, that they use to create amazing headbands.
You can wear flowers in your hair to almost any occasion, from casual to a more formal look. Choose natural or faux flowers and accessorize it to your hair down, to a side braids, middle part or to a loose ponytail.

Headbands. Headbands are also very trendy this year, and they can be found in the mini version, but also in the oversized one. Zac Posen prefers the mini ones in neon shades of green and fuchsia, that he wreathes delicately into the twisted buns. At Bottegga Veneta, they are made from a thin white ribbon and they “accompany” the '60s hairstyles. Lacoste ingeniously combines the flapper style of the '20s and '30s with sport elements by using white tennis headbands or large ribbons with contrasting stripes.
